Space Center Houston, the official visitors center for NASA’s Johnson Space Center, is the only place on earth where guests can embark on an out-of-this-world journey through human adventures in space.

Space Center Houston features a multitude of permanent exhibits, attractions and theaters. In addition, the venue presents an array of traveling exhibits and events created exclusively by Space Center Houston’s creative exhibit team.

NEW: The space shuttle replica Explorer is now on display at Space Center Houston. The 122-foot, 130,000-pound wooden replica is being restored so the public can go inside the capsule as part of a behind-the-scenes look at life inside a space shuttle, an experience only available at Space Center Houston. The exhibit is currently under construction. Guests can currently see the outside of the replica, which is positioned in front of the Space Center building.

The full-scale model was built over the course of 13 months for $1.7 million. It was installed at the Kennedy Space Center in November 1993. The shuttle model is free-standing and displayed on its three landing gears. The shuttle replica has landing gear tires from actual shuttle missions in space. The payload bay contains a model of a Hughes communications satellite perigee kick motor similar to the one carried on the STS-49 mission.

The long-term vision calls for a world-class education center to be built that provides historical context and a hands-on educational experience. The board of Space Center Houston has launched a $3 million capital campaign to fund the transportation costs and underwrite the necessary facilities improvements for the new exhibits, including a dedicated plaza and ramp.
